Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
CommonSignal ("CommonSignal," "we," "us," or "our") provides a software platform that unifies access control, bookings, billing, and community management for operators of shared and private spaces. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
This policy covers thecommonsignal.com and the CommonSignal platform. It does not cover the websites or apps of individual operators who use CommonSignal to run their own space — each operator is responsible for their own privacy practices toward their members and guests.
Information We Collect
Account and contact information you provide when requesting a demo or signing up, such as name, work email, company name, and phone number.
Operational data operators enter or generate while using the platform: member and guest records, bookings, invoices, payment status, and access events.
Device and usage data, such as browser type, IP address, and pages visited on our marketing site, collected through standard web analytics.
Camera-Based Occupancy Data
Some CommonSignal deployments use camera-based sensing to detect whether a room is quiet, moderate, or busy, so that unbooked no-show rooms can release automatically and occupied-but-unbooked rooms can be prompted toward booking. This sensing produces an occupancy state only. CommonSignal does not record or store video footage from these cameras, and occupancy states are not used for facial recognition or identification of individuals.
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. CommonSignal does not store full payment card numbers on its own servers. Stripe's use of your information is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above to operate and improve the platform, to provide customer support, to communicate with you about your account or a demo request, and to meet legal and security obligations.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell personal information. We share information with service providers who help us run the platform (such as Stripe for payments, and cloud hosting providers), with an operator's own staff for operational purposes, and when required by law.
Data Retention
We retain operational data for as long as an operator's account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution needs. Camera-derived occupancy states are not retained as footage, consistent with the section above.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect data in transit and at rest, and physical access control endpoints are designed to fail secure — a connectivity or power loss keeps doors locked rather than releasing them.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain uses. California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To make a request, contact us at the email below.
Children's Privacy
CommonSignal is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
